About
At BookBloom, our mission is to empower struggling readers, especially children with dyslexia, through compassionate, research-based tutoring that builds confidence, unlocks literacy, and helps every child grow into the reader they’re meant to be.
Hello! My name is Kandace Garrigus, and I am the founder of BookBloom. For over 25 years, I’ve been a special education teacher, working with children who face learning challenge, especially in reading. I hold a degree in Special Education and a Master’s in Teaching & Leadership, and I’m trained in the Orton-Gillingham approach, a proven, evidence-based method for teaching reading to students with dyslexia and other learning differences.
My journey has been both professional and personal. I’ve supported countless students in the classroom, and I’ve walked this path at home with my own children, helping them navigate reading challenges. Through these experiences, I’ve seen firsthand the frustration that struggling readers feel, but I’ve also witnessed the transformation that happens when they’re given the right tools, strategies, and encouragement.
That’s why I created BookBloom: to offer personalized, nurturing, and effective reading support that empowers children to grow into confident, joyful readers. My goal is not only to improve skills but also to build a lifelong love of books and learning.
When I’m not teaching or building BookBloom, you’ll probably find me with a good book in hand, at a local bookstore, or sharing recommendations through my Bookshop.org storefront. I love connecting families with resources that inspire curiosity and confidence.
